Political consultations between Serbia and Cyprus

Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Cyprus were held in Belgrade.

During the consultations, bilateral relations were discussed, which were concluded to be based on strong friendship, historically confirmed closeness and solidarity of the two peoples. Mutual support was expressed between Serbia and Cyprus in the protection of national interests, primarily the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Cypriot side expressed full support and offered assistance in the process of European integration of Serbia. Both sides expressed readiness to further strengthen and intensify the dialogue on a number of issues of common interest, both bilaterally and in international forums.

The concrete steps that need to be taken in the coming period in order to deepen economic relations were discussed.

Information was exchanged on issues of importance for the two countries: on the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as on the current situation regarding the Cyprus problem.

The two sides exchanged views on the situation in our region and the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The Cypriot side reaffirmed its position on non-recognition of the unilaterally recognized independence of Kosovo, while Serbia's unconditional support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus was reiterated.

The consultations were chaired by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nemanja Starović, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Cornelios Corneliu.
