Ambassador Janković: Bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany are excellent

In an interview with "Behörden Spiegel", Ambassador Janković assessed the economic relations between the two countries as excellent, emphasizing that Germany is Serbia's largest foreign trade partner.

Ambassador Janković reminded that the foreign trade exchange in 2020, despite the crisis caused by the pandemic, exceeded five billion euros for the second year in a row, emphasizing that more than 400 German companies operate in Serbia, employing almost 70,000 workers.

According to Ambassador Janković, an important factor in the relations between the two countries is represented by several hundred thousand integrated citizens of Serbian origin in Germany.

Janković underlined that EU membership is the most important priority of the foreign policy of the Republic of Serbia, pointing out that negotiations must be faster.

In this regard, Ambassador Janković informed that Serbia has accepted the new methodology of enlargement negotiations, and that it is sure that it is in the best interest of both the EU and the candidates.

She also pointed out that she was convinced of sincere cooperation with our European partners and pointed out her gratitude to the Federal Republic of Germany for the support expressed many times in achieving the most important foreign policy goal of Serbia, EU membership.

Janković pointed out that finding a lasting and sustainable compromise solution to the issue of Kosovo and Metohija is extremely important for Serbia and Serbian citizens.

Serbia remains committed to the EU-mediated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, insisting that what is agreed within the dialogue must be implemented, Janković explained.

Janković emphasized that the formation of the Association of Serbian Municipalities is crucial for Serbia, as well as that Belgrade is ready to continue talks in good faith and that the result of the dialogue should be a sustainable compromise solution, acceptable to both sides.

Speaking about the fight against the epidemic in Serbia, Ambassador Janković pointed out the success of the measures that Serbia quickly introduced, building, among other things, two specialized hospitals for covid patients.

Also, Ambassador Janković informed about the process of immunization of the population, emphasizing that Serbia ranks second in Europe in terms of the number of vaccinated.

Janković reminded that the Serbian Embassy in Berlin is making significant efforts when it comes to creating a true picture of Serbia and the Serbian people in Germany, adding that the bond between our two countries lies also in cooperation of key figures of Serbian and German culture, explaining that the reformer of the Serbian language, Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, as well as the brothers Grimm and von Humboldt, worked closely together.
