VISA REGIME

ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia traveling to Nepal can obtain an appropriate visa at the international airport in Kathmandu, or at the Nepal border crossings, upon presenting a valid passport and a photograph (passport size) with a light background. Visa application must be submitted online before travel. The application form, detailed visa requirements, visa categories, periods for which they are issued and additional documentation that must be submitted with the visa application, are available on the website of the Immigration Department of Nepal:

Health insurance policy or proof of vaccination are not required, unless passengers are coming from an area affected by yellow fever, in which case appropriate medical certificate is required.
For the purpose of controlling illegal trekking, the obligation to complete the Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card was introduced in 1 April, 2010. The card is available at the offices of the Nepal Tourism Board (NBD) and more information is available at: https://timsnepal.com/.
Climbing permits are issued by the mountaineering association under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. Additional information is available at www.nepalmountaineering.org

USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — Vaccination is not mandatory (except in the above-mentioned case of yellow fever), but vaccination against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhus, and rabies is advised before travelling to Nepal. It is not recommended to consume tap water in Nepal, only bottled water. If no bottled water is available, tap water should be boiled for at least 10 minutes before consumption or disinfected using water purification tablets. All food should be thermally processed before consumption. Fresh food should be consumed only at the establishments that meet the necessary hygienic requirements.
It is also recommended to take preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases. These include the use of mosquito-repellent lotions, wearing long-sleeves and pants, closing windows without mosquito nets, use of electrical mosquito repellents, etc. Climbers should be informed about the symptoms and ways to overcome acute mountain sickness before departure and behave in accordance with the received instructions when climbing mountain peaks.

SECURITY SITUATION — The security situation may be complicated by relatively frequent political demonstrations both in the capital as well as in other areas of Nepal, sometimes accompanied by the use of force, closing of the international airport and disruption of road or rail traffic. In such situations, it is necessary to follow the instructions provided by verified travel agencies or broadcast by local media and act in accordance with them.
Nepal is an earthquake-prone seismic area. In the event of an earthquake, it is necessary to follow the instructions of the local authorities and act in accordance with them.

TRANSPORT — For intercity bus transport, special tourist vans or air-conditioned mini buses are available.
The main means of local transport in Nepal are taxis and rickshaws. Taxicabs with metered fares are recognizable by black license plates. A taxi ride from the airport to a location in the greater Kathmandu area costs between 500 and 800 Nepalese rupees. There are also private cars which operate as taxicabs. They have red license plates and fares are somewhat higher.
Car rental is possible through travel or car rental agencies. Bike rental (Kathmandu and Pokhara) is also available at affordable prices.

OTHER INFORMATION — The currency of Nepal is the Nepalese Rupee (NPR) (one rupee is 100 paisa). Foreign currency (all major foreign currencies are accepted, including the euro, the US dollar and the British pound) can be exchanged for local currency at major banks, hotels, as well as the exchange offices at Tribuvan International Airport.
Nepal has a typical monsoon climate. The dry period is from October to May, while the wet (monsoon) period is from June to September. The intervals between these two main periods - from September to November and from March to May - are considered the most suitable for visiting Nepal.
