USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — The Republic of Armenia has professional doctors and medical staff, but the number of well-equipped hospitals and healthcare institutions is relatively small, and they are mostly located in Yerevan and other cities. The drug (medicine) market is well supplied, but the types and the quality of drugs (medication) differ.
Information on the current health situation in the Republic of Armenia can be found  on the World Health Organization website: https://www.who.int/countries/arm/.

SECURITY SITUATION — Due to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, which led to a conflict with Azerbaijan, and although a ceasefire in this zone was agreed after the military operations from September to November 2020, certain tensions are still present. In order to guarantee peace and security, representatives of the peace mission of the Russian Federation have been deployed in the region. In border areas, there is a certain risk of sporadic ceasefire violations or conflicts. Demonstrations and protests are occasionally organised in the country, and such gatherings should be avoided, the media should be monitored, and instructions and warnings by local authorities should be followed.
The crime rate is relatively low, so it is relatively safe in this regard, although one should be careful about possible thefts, pickpockets, etc.

TRANSPORT — The most important airport in the Republic of Armenia is the Zvartnots airport, in the capital Yerevan, through which, in addition to the land border crossings with Georgia, international passenger transport is carried out. The borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey are closed.
The road and railway networks are underdeveloped. Public transportation is very cheap. Local roads are often not in good condition, and driving standards vary, so extra caution is needed. Travelling at night and in the winter months is not recommended.
Driver's license from the Republic of Serbia is valid on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, both during a tourist trip and in the case of a temporary or permanent stay in Armenia. Persons who have a regulated stay in Armenia may, if they wish, exchange their national (Serbian) driver's license for an Armenian one.
If travelling by car from the Republic of Serbia, it is necessary to buy basic vehicle insurance (the international "Green Card" does not apply) in the Republic of Armenia. The insurance premium depends on engine power, age and driving experience.

OTHER INFORMATION — The national currency is the Armenian dram (AMD). The most known international credit and debit cards are accepted less frequently, mainly in Yerevan and other cities, in larger hotels, restaurants and shops.
