Đurić: The Most Fruitful Years of Serbia–Slovakia Cooperation Are Yet to Come

11. Sep 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić said at a reception marking Constitution Day and Armed Forces Day of the Slovak Republic that it was a great honour to address those gathered on this important occasion on behalf of the Republic of Serbia and to extend his warmest congratulations to the Embassy, Government and people of the Slovak Republic.

“Our relations have been built layer upon layer, through centuries of friendship and partnership between our peoples, armed forces and states. It is therefore relatively easy for our generation to continue building on such a rich legacy. But we are ambitious. We want to do everything in our power to further strengthen this partnership and take it to an even higher level,” Đurić emphasised.

The Serbian Foreign Minister expressed satisfaction that annual bilateral trade exceeds one billion euros, that companies from both countries are investing in each other's economies, and that cooperation across all areas continues to advance successfully under the careful leadership of President Aleksandar Vučić and the Government of Serbia, as well as President Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister Robert Fico and his colleague and friend, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár.

“He is an outstanding partner, a great friend and a staunch advocate of the Slovak–Serbian partnership, and we are deeply grateful for your support for Serbia on its path towards the European Union. We are also profoundly grateful for your support and understanding of Serbia’s position regarding our territorial integrity and sovereignty — an issue that is very close to the hearts of so many Serbs,” Đurić said.

He announced that a joint exhibition would soon be held in Washington, where the embassies of the two countries would showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Slovak community in Serbia to audiences in the United States and around the world.

“This is just one example of what we can achieve and what we are already accomplishing together. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to wish you many more successful years, to personally thank you and your team, and to express my firm conviction that the most fruitful years of our cooperation are still ahead of us,” Đurić concluded.

The Serbian Foreign Minister also expressed his hope that a new Slovak House would soon open in Serbia, serving as an important centre for Slovak culture, economic activity and community life in Serbia, while also making a significant contribution to bilateral relations.
