Tamara Vucic on a visit to Iran
Mrs. Tamara Vucic also used her visit to Iran to officially open the Serbian corner in the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran, together with the Director of the Library, Alireza Mokhtarpour. On this occasion, the already existing collection of books on Serbian history and culture was enriched with another 30 titles.
"The Serbian corner is just a window into the rich and diverse culture and history of my country and my people, but often only one word is enough to inspire and motivate you to search further and learn more. Getting to know different cultures is the path to understanding in love", Mrs. Vucic said opening the Serbian corner in the prestigious Iranian cultural institution and also emphasized the importance of libraries in the education process: "Peace and safety reside in libraries, those shrines of knowledge and personal development".
The congress at which Mrs. Vucic previously spoke, and which was attended by the first ladies from countries around the world, aims to expand the understanding, interaction and synergy among influential women, and take a practical step towards strengthening the self-confidence and dignity of women and their social cohesion.
In her address at the Congress, Mrs. Vucic underlined the importance and role of women in building a common and better future for all and added that she, as well as Serbia as a whole, strived to support the dialogue aimed at the recognition of the power and capacity of women.
"The great Serbian poet and diplomat Jovan Ducic once wrote: ‘Feminine tenderness, that strange force that is invisible but all-powerful, lives in those fragile creatures, emerges from them in the most diverse forms, and creates and dissolves lives and destinies around them’. Our task is to use this power to build, nurture and create. To build good friendships, foster understanding, the desire for change", Mrs. Vucic said.
The spouse of the President of Serbia, together with other first ladies and participants of the Congress, also met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
On that occasion, Mrs. Vucic conveyed the greetings of her husband, the President of the Republic of Serbia, to the leader and the people of Iran. Pointing out that the Republic of Serbia was a small, territorially and in terms of population, but a proud country devoted to its principles, the first lady of Serbia emphasized the importance of respecting traditional friendships, such as the friendship with Iran, as well as respecting international law, territorial integrity and sovereignty of all UN member states.
In this context, Mrs. Tamara Vucic thanked the President and the people of Iran for their firm stance and non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija, and conveyed the readiness of the Republic of Serbia to further develop cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy, agriculture, culture, sports and education.
