Selaković: Serbia firmly committed to improving overall cooperation with India
Noting the traditionally friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries, Minister Selaković pointed out that Serbia was firmly committed to further improving and deepening the overall cooperation with India.
Minister Selaković reiterated that the relations between the two countries were based on the UN principles and the Non-Aligned Movement values, and that, they were characterised by mutual respect and a high degree of support in the most important issues in the international fora.
Minister Selaković expressed his satisfaction with the intensity of political dialogue and the stable dynamics of visits at the highest and a high level, conveying the message that it would be a great honour for Serbia to host India’s President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Minister Selaković especially thanked India for its principled and consistent support for preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, that is, for its firm position on the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, as well as for the support it provided Serbia in the international organisations. He especially reflected on the participation of the Indian delegation at the April session of the UN Security Council on the work of UNMIK, when India supported the role and the mandate of UNMIK and advocated for its further engagement.
When it comes to economic cooperation, Minister Selaković stated that it was gradually growing in intensity, pointing out the noticeable increase in the interest of Indian companies in the Serbian market. Minister Selaković assessed that the increase in the interest of Indian tourists in Serbia was impressive and expressed his belief that it would additionally influence the strengthening of ties between the two countries.
Minister Selaković also said that the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation was an important tool for strengthening Serbia–India economic cooperation and that he expected the long-delayed 4th session would be held in the coming period.
