Selaković: Historical friendship and understanding between Serbia and Angola

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola Téte António, who paid an official visit to Serbia.

At the press conference after the meeting, Minister Selaković emphasised that Serbia was firmly committed to strengthening political dialogue and overall cooperation with Angola, noting that it was the third meeting with Minister António in the last seven months. In this context, Minister Selaković recalled his visit to Angola and participation of the Angolan delegation and Minister António in the commemorative gathering in Belgrade on the occasion of marking the 60th anniversary of the first Conference of the Non-Aligned Countries.

Minister Selaković underlined that both countries clearly respected the principles of public international law, thanking Angola for the firm and principled support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, as well as for the support they provided us in all international organizations.

"We talked about the potential for developing economic cooperation, which should not be reduced only to trade, but it should lead to increased mutual investment", said Minister Selaković and added that there was mutual interest in the development of cooperation in many areas.

Minister Selaković emphasised that President Aleksandar Vučić awarded the Order on a ribbon to President of Angola João Lourenço, pointing out that this decoration symbolised the mutual friendship and understanding between the two countries, and conveying his wish to host President Lourenço in Serbia in the coming period.

Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António thanked for the warm reception, saying that the two countries had historical friendship ties and should work on nurturing and strengthening such a friendship.

"The African continent and Angola have a lot of potential, and they need it use it in the right way", said the Head of Angolan diplomacy and added that he talked with Minister Selaković about strengthening the economic relations, stating that he, as a Minister, was ready to help identify the specific areas of future cooperation.

Ministers Selaković and António signed the Agreement on the Abolition of Visas for holders of diplomatic and official passports, Memorandum on Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Memorandum on Cooperation between diplomatic academies, while the representatives of the Serbian and Angolan Chambers of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two economic associations.
