The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, today signed a Cooperation Protocol with the Director of the Office for Information Technology and e-Government, Mihailo Jovanović, concerning data storage and migration, maintenance, improvement, and upgrading of the Visa Information System.

On this occasion, Minister Đurić expressed his gratitude to the Office for its cooperation and underscored his satisfaction with Serbia's significant strides toward modernizing its diplomatic network.

As he emphasized, Serbia is on the brink of a quantum leap in the quality of consular services, made possible through the collaboration between the Ministry and the Office.

"In February last year, the online visa application system and the Foreigners' Portal were launched, already benefiting tens of thousands of individuals seeking to visit our country," the Serbian Foreign Minister stated. He also highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be the first institution to utilize a digital seal, and that the online E-Visa system is expected to become operational soon.

"Diplomacy is often viewed solely as a political instrument; however, it also plays a crucial role in providing essential services to citizens. With this Protocol, we are opening a new chapter in that regard," Đurić noted.

He further stated that the development of the Office for IT and e-Government, along with the establishment of state data centers in Belgrade and Kragujevac, enhances the security of citizens’ data stored within public institutions and strengthens Serbia’s cybersecurity—one of the key issues of our time.

The Director of the Office for IT and e-Government, Mihailo Jovanović, emphasized that the signing of this Protocol marks the beginning of a joint effort to improve the Visa Information System. Initially, the system will be transferred to the state data center, followed by upgrades and the introduction of new electronic services for foreign nationals seeking to live and work in Serbia.

Speaking about Serbia’s success in the field of digitalization, Jovanović particularly highlighted the Foreigners' Portal, noting that, to date, a total of 43,961 applications for a unified residence and work permit have been submitted and processed.

Regarding preparations for the Specialized Expo 2027, Jovanović stated that intensive work is underway to further enhance the Foreigners' Portal. This will ensure the availability of electronic visas, enabling all interested participants to complete the necessary procedures online via the portal.
