Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric participated today, at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the side event "Women, Peace and Security" held as part of the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C., which Serbia is attending as a member of "Partnership for Peace" programme.

The gathering represents one of the most important events within the Summit, bearing in mind that it pertains to women, peace and security in the context of current political and security challenges in the world.

In this context, the participants of the meeting had the opportunity to discuss the consequences of armed conflicts on the female population, as well as the importance of the role of women in building peace and post-conflict recovery of states.

The event was also an opportunity to point out again that women are not only victims of violence and war, but that they also have a role as participants of the conflicting parties, as well as that they represent a significant factor in negotiations, the goal of which is to establish peace.

Serbia is the second country in the region that has adopted the principles of the "Women, Peace and Security" programme, with a whole range of competent state institutions monitoring the implementation and harmonization of those principles.

Currently, women account for 12.59% of the total Serbian Armed Forces personnel engaged in multinational operations.

In this way, Serbia reaffirms its intention to actively contribute to the processes of building peace and stability, not only in its immediate environment, but also across the globe.
