The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, held a conversation today with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, during which he conveyed Serbia’s deep concern over the arrest of Igor Popović, a member of Serbia’s negotiating team, as well as over the harassment and detention of other members of the Serbian community in Kosovo and Metohija.

Minister Đurić emphasized that such actions represent a dangerous attempt to intimidate the Serbian community and to undermine the ongoing dialogue.

In the telephone conversation, he underlined Serbia’s expectation for a clear and principled engagement from international actors, particularly the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), whose continued presence remains essential for the protection of the rights and security of the Serbian people on the ground.

Minister Đurić also reaffirmed that Serbia will remain a reliable supporter of the United Nations and a constructive contributor to efforts aimed at preserving peace and stability, in line with the UN Charter, which continues to serve as the cornerstone of international law and the guarantor of sovereign equality among states.

On this occasion, Minister Đurić stressed that respect for this framework is the only viable path to safeguarding stability both in the region and globally.
