Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Đurić met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, with whom he discussed the promotion of relations between the two countries and cooperation in areas of common interest.

The head of Serbian diplomacy expressed his satisfaction with today's meeting, noting that it had a historical character, since this was the first visit by a Beninese Foreign Minister to the Republic of Serbia in nearly four decades.

Minister Đurić expressed his belief that the visit of his counterpart from Benin was an introduction to the intensification of political dialogue, but also that it would open the door to the development of overall cooperation and further deepen the ties between the two countries, seeing that Serbia aspired to expand its network of cooperation and friendships.

The Minister said that there was room to intensify economic cooperation between Serbia and Benin, particularly in the fields of agriculture, trade and ICT.

As he noted, the "World in Serbia" project was a significant cultural bridge between the two countries, which enables students from all corners of the world to obtain higher education in our country, and which even more young people from Benin should join.

After the meeting, the ministers signed memoranda of understanding between the foreign ministries of Serbia and Benin on political and diplomatic consultations, as well as on the training of diplomatic personnel.

They noted that the signed documents would be an important link towards a better mutual understanding between the two countries, and would contribute to a more intensive cooperation between the two ministries, the strengthening of diplomatic ties and exchange of experiences in that field.
