Đurić: Signs of Serbian-Jewish friendship are present throughout Israel
"We are concluding our visit to Israel at a very special place, the Kibbutz Shaar Haamakim, which was founded by immigrants from Serbia and Yugoslavia in 1935. We are standing at a location where the members of this kibbutz erected a monument to the chivalrous King Alexander Karađorđević, one of the greatest friends of the Jewish people," emphasized Đurić.
According to him, to repay the Serbian people and King Alexander for their friendship, the kibbutz members planted a forest.
"We see that forest all around us, it is still called the King Alexander Forest, and they also built this modest monument after his assassination in Marseille," the Minister pointed out.
The head of Serbia's diplomacy stated that Serbia's roots in the Holy Land are deeply significant.
"Our delegation also visited the Monastery of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Jerusalem, one of the founders of which was King Milutin. Signs of Serbian-Jewish friendship are present everywhere," Đurić concluded, noting that he was the first Serbian official to visit this memorial in northern Israel.
Summing up the visit, the Minister highlighted that discussions were held on deepening the relationship between the two countries in areas such as the economy, culture, and the enhancement of political ties.
"I am confident that for Serbia, relations with such a developed, technologically advanced, and politically influential country are of great importance, and our task here – to open doors – has been successfully completed," concluded the Serbian Foreign Minister.
During this occasion, Đurić also issued a call for the release of all hostages, including the young pianist Alon Ohel.
"Every step of this visit is being used to appeal for the release of Alon Ohel, a Serbian-Israeli citizen who has been imprisoned by Hamas for 505 days, and to ask for the release of all other hostages, advocating for peace," Minister said.
