Đurić: Serbia addresses regional issues in a positive, tolerant, and peace-loving manner

14. Feb 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, stated today that the participation of our country's representatives at the Munich Security Conference is an opportunity for Serbia to demonstrate to the world its strength and freedom, and its commitment to resolving regional issues in a positive, tolerant, and peaceful manner.

"This is an exceptionally significant opportunity for Serbia to assert itself as a nation that constructively contributes to both regional security and economic development, as a country with open arms and open doors for cooperation, as part of the solution rather than part of the problem as some would like to portray," Đurić declared.

According to him, the building hosting the Munich Security Conference is also frequented by others, including representatives from the temporary self-governing institutions in Pristina, who will attempt to cast Serbia in a negative light.

"We are here not only to respond but also to demonstrate that we view things from a much higher level than petty disputes and quarrels, and that we are forward-looking, clearly articulating the issues of today but wishing to overcome these challenges in a civilized manner," Đurić explained.

Emphasizing that the Munich Security Conference is, given the number of attending global political leaders, a showcase of global diplomacy, Đurić noted that the numerous meetings he had today also provided an opportunity for Serbia to affirm its commitment to protecting the position and interests of the Serbian people in the region as envisaged by international law and norms.

Minister Đurić added that he was pleased to hear from many interlocutors their respect for Serbia's policy, that we can count on the partnership of numerous countries, and that President Aleksandar Vučić is recognized and accepted as a partner contributing to normal relations in the region.

The head of Serbian diplomacy mentioned that today he had the opportunity to speak with a delegation from the U.S. Senate and other high-ranking representatives of the administration in Washington, such as Luis Bono and Richard Grenell.

"I also spoke with the new EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, Mr. Sorensen. This conversation was an opportunity to specifically highlight what has been happening to our people in Kosovo and Metohija over the last two and a half years and to prepare his mandate, which is very important for protecting our interests, as the way he approaches this issue as the EU Special Envoy greatly affects the daily lives of our people," said Đurić.

The Minister also noted that the Serbian delegation spoke with families of hostages taken by Hamas, who are held captive in Gaza, including our citizen Alon Ohel, demonstrating that Serbia is one of the countries advocating for an end to the suffering of all those affected by the horrific conflict in the Middle East.
