Đurić confers with the New Head of UNMIK
Congratulating his interlocutor on assuming this important post, Minister Đurić underscored that the imperative of the international community’s engagement in Kosovo and Metohija must be the preservation of its multi-ethnic character, which has unfortunately been called into question by persistent and intensifying pressures on the Serb community.
Đurić emphasized that Serbia attaches exceptional importance to the work of UNMIK, stressing that it is crucial to continue the Mission’s engagement in order to ensure the consistent implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
The Serbian Foreign Minister also expressed his expectation that the practice of regular and substantive communication on all matters of importance for UNMIK’s future activities in Kosovo and Metohija would continue.
Informing his counterpart of the latest moves by the Pristina authorities, Đurić voiced serious concern over the overall situation in Kosovo and Metohija, reiterating that UNMIK must remain fully engaged on all relevant issues, without any reduction in scope and with its mandate unchanged.
Đurić reaffirmed that Serbia expects the international community to ensure all rights and full security for the Serb population, in order to prevent their displacement from Kosovo and Metohija resulting from the unilateral actions of the regime in Pristina.
Minister Đurić further underlined that it is of great importance to Serbia to maintain the continuity and regularity of open-format sessions of the United Nations Security Council on UNMIK, so that the public may be timely and adequately informed about the security-sensitive situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
