Đurić confers with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger
Following the meeting, Minister Đurić stated that Serbia views African countries as close partners in the field of international cooperation, nurturing traditional friendships that date back decades.
"In the past, we supported the anti-colonial struggles of our African friends and brothers. Today, we are looking to build partnerships for the future—not only with the countries of the Sahel region, and here I would particularly like to thank our esteemed guest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger, with whom Serbia maintains excellent relations, but also much more broadly," Đurić emphasized.
He noted that Serbia aspires to base its economic, political, and overall future on strong cooperation with African nations.
"Yes, we are a European country on our European path, but we believe that one of Serbia’s comparative advantages lies in maintaining these traditional friendships and partnerships," Đurić stressed.
The Serbian Foreign Minister also expressed admiration for the peoples of Africa, especially in Niger, who, being among the youngest populations in the world, are striving to resolve their regional challenges.
In this endeavor, he added, they can count on the full support of the Republic of Serbia.
"Once again, I sincerely thank our friends and brothers from Niger for their support of Serbia in the international arena, in international organizations on issues important to us. I am confident that in this year, in which we mark 80 years since the adoption of the United Nations Charter, we stand together in upholding its principles," Đurić concluded.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger highlighted that this visit represents a confirmation of a new impetus in relations with Serbia, as well as an opportunity to discuss areas where there is potential for cooperation to the benefit of both nations.
He added that Niger and Serbia share the same values—respect for territorial integrity, respect for the sovereignty of each country, adherence to the United Nations Charter, as well as respect for human rights and international law.
Minister Sangaré also informed Minister Đurić that Niger is currently dedicated to reviewing and reassessing all major international positions previously adopted, evaluating them in light of the new vision of Niger's leadership and considering possible revisions.
Speaking about areas for bilateral cooperation, Minister Sangaré particularly highlighted agriculture as a promising field.
During their bilateral meeting, both Foreign Ministers affirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation in the field of education, with Serbia expressing its readiness to increase the number of scholarships for students from Niger within the "World in Serbia" program.
