Đurić confers with Head of UNMIK on the Situation in Kosovo and Metohija

19. Mar 2026.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Đurić, met today with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Peter Due, to discuss the current security and political situation in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the position of the Serbian people.

Minister Đurić emphasized that the Republic of Serbia attaches great importance to the work of UNMIK and underlined that, for Serbia, it is of significant importance to preserve the continuity and frequency of United Nations Security Council sessions on UNMIK in an open format, so that the broader international public may be objectively informed about the security-sensitive situation and the position of the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo and Metohija.

According to him, Serbia expects that UNMIK, in addition to effectively implementing its mandate on the ground, will, in the forthcoming report of the UN Secretary-General, objectively and on the basis of facts highlight the alarming situation of the Serbian and other non-majority communities.

Đurić noted that the solution reached regarding the implementation of the Law on Foreigners, within the framework of the European Union, Belgrade and Priština, has prevented the worst-case scenario, emphasizing that such an outcome had been anticipated. As he stated, this solution has preserved the institutions of healthcare and education, which constitute the backbone of the survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and the foundation of the future Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.

At the same time, he pointed to numerous examples of institutional violence, as well as to continuous and increasingly frequent unilateral actions by the provisional institutions in Priština directed against the Serbian people.

Đurić concluded that the presence of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and Metohija is of utmost importance for the preservation of peace, stability, and security in the Province, and stressed that Belgrade will continue to provide all forms of support to the UNMIK mission that may contribute to improving the overall situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
