Dačić meets UN Undersecretary for Peacekeeping Operations and the head of UNMIK

15. May 2023.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić met today with UN Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of UNMIK, Caroline Ziadeh.

The interlocutors discussed the contribution of our country to world peace through the participation of representatives of Serbia in peace operations and the improvement of cooperation with UN.

They discussed the importance of continuing the engagement of the UNMIK Mission on all issues of significance for the consistent implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1244, as well as the current security and political situation in Kosovo- Metohija, especially in the context of recent incidents that further increased tensions. The topic of discussion was the perspective of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština.

The Head of Serbian diplomacy, Ivica Dačić, pointed out that Serbia was committed to the dialogue as the only way to solve current issues, but that the point was in respecting what had been agreed upon. In this context, he emphasised that it was necessary to implement the assumed obligations, primarily the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities, even though ten years had passed since the signing of the Brussels Agreement.

Mr. Lacroix praised the participation of representatives of Serbia in missions under the UN mandate, above all, the quality and professionalism of their engagement. Mr. Dačić confirmed Serbia's readiness to continue to be a significant participant in UN peace operations, thereby contributing to the building of peace and security in the world.

The interlocutors expressed the expectation that the good cooperation would continue in the future.
