During his working visit to Guatemala, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, met in the country’s capital with representatives of the Guatemalan Exporters Association (AGEXPORT), led by the Director of the International Cooperation Sector, Moisés Mérida.

The meeting included a presentation of Guatemala’s export potential, with particular emphasis on the agriculture and food-processing sectors. It was noted that Guatemala records its highest export volumes to the markets of Central America, the Caribbean, and the United States, while exports to European countries have also increased in recent years and currently exceed 12 percent. In this context, interest was expressed in strengthening trade relations with Serbia.

Kozarev presented Serbia’s economic landscape and the opportunities it offers, highlighting the considerable progress achieved over the past decade—during which GDP grew from approximately thirty-three billion euros to more than eighty-five billion, and is projected to surpass one hundred billion euros by 2027.

He invited members of the Guatemalan business community to participate in the World Exhibition “EXPO 2027” in Belgrade, for which clear interest was expressed.

Kozarev also underscored the advantages offered by the Belgrade Tourism Fair and the Novi Sad Agricultural Fair, as well as the prestigious international event “Wine Vision of the Open Balkan,” stressing that Serbia would be pleased to host an AGEXPORT delegation at these important manifestations.

The initiative to intensify economic ties through the chambers of commerce of the two countries was positively assessed, as was the possibility of Serbia launching negotiations with the Central American regional bloc on the establishment of a free-trade agreement, given that this grouping maintains such arrangements with the European Union, the United States, and South Korea.
