The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nevena Jovanović, met today with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Andreas von Beckerath.

During an open and constructive exchange, the interlocutors discussed key issues related to Serbia’s European integration process, the Belgrade–Priština dialogue, as well as broader regional and international developments of relevance to European security and stability.

The parties agreed that in the period ahead it will be necessary to further intensify reform efforts in order to accelerate the accession process, jointly assessing that the integration of the region into the European Union is essential for the stability and prosperity of the entire area.

In this regard, Jovanović underlined that membership in the European Union represents a strategic commitment and a priority of the Republic of Serbia’s foreign policy. To that end, a new organizational negotiating structure has been adopted and an Operational Team for the EU Accession Process has been established, tasked with providing strategic guidance, ensuring political coordination, and facilitating the timely resolution of issues relevant to progress in the negotiations.

Jovanović also took the opportunity to brief her interlocutor on the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija, pointing to pronounced security and institutional challenges faced by the Serbian population. Particular attention was drawn to measures and announced regulatory solutions by Priština that further complicate the daily lives of Serbs and adversely affect the exercise of their fundamental rights, including the right to work and freedom of movement. In this context, Jovanović emphasized the importance of enhanced engagement by the European Union with a view to preserving peace and stability and creating the conditions necessary for the continuation of the dialogue.
