Jovanović confers with Delegation of the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain
State Secretary Jovanović emphasized that, in the year marking the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Spain, Serbia attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with this friendly country, with which it shares a commitment to respect for international law, multilateralism, and dialogue. She underlined Serbia’s firm determination to further intensify political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation at all levels
in the period ahead.
Jovanović expressed gratitude for Spain’s firm and consistent position in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as for the active engagement Spain provides to Serbia within international organizations. She assessed that such a stance is of crucial importance in light of the exceptionally difficult position of the Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohija, which faces serious challenges in the exercise of fundamental human rights, as well as threats to its security and survival.
At the same time, she highlighted the significance of Spain’s support for Serbia’s European integration process and reaffirmed Serbia’s readiness to continue implementing reforms and advancing further along its European path. In this context, the State Secretary noted that an operational team has been established to coordinate the implementation of all obligations related to Serbia’s EU accession process.
The State Secretary welcomed Spain’s decision to participate in the Specialized Exhibition Expo 2027 in Belgrade and conveyed that Serbia seeks to ensure that the development of economic cooperation continues to reflect the high level of political relations, thereby sustaining the longstanding tradition of friendship and partnership between the two countries.
