Iraq maintains its position on Non-Recognition of the Unilateral Declaration of Independence of Kosovo
In an open and constructive exchange of views, the two sides discussed the current state of bilateral relations. It was concluded that relations are friendly, based on decades of mutual understanding and respect, and founded upon a shared commitment to independent and sovereign state policies in an increasingly complex global environment.
The Iraqi side reiterated its firm support for Serbia regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija and emphasized its readiness to continue mutual support across all fields of common interest.
Regarding cooperation, opportunities were identified for further strengthening ties in the areas of culture, economy, and security. During today’s meeting, invitations were exchanged for participation in the international specialized exhibition Expo 2027, to be hosted by Belgrade, as well as the Baghdad International Fair.
The Iraqi side also extended an invitation to Serbian companies to participate in infrastructure projects in Iraq.
Turning to current regional topics, Secretary General Kozarev briefed his interlocutor on the situation in the region, particularly developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Addressing internal developments in Serbia, and especially the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, he drew attention to the ongoing repression of the Serbian population by Kurti’s regime in Serbia’s southern province. Part of the discussion was also dedicated to the attempted color revolution and the unacceptable restrictions imposed on the work of Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).
