Trieste: Consul General Stojiljković at the "Save from Oblivion" event

The Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Trieste, Ivana Stojiljković, attended the event “Save from Oblivion”, organized on the occasion of marking ten years of work of the Serbian cultural association Sveti Sava from Valdagno.

This association is organizing cultural and sport activities throughout the year, and runs a school centre of the Serbian supplementary school. They are best known for their gusle section (gusle - single-stringed lute-like stringed instrument) and for the events they organize in honour of this traditional Serbian instrument.

The celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the association was attended by the president of the Association of Serbs in Italy Dušan Aleksić, the president of the Lebane Municipal Assembly Boban Pejić, the president of the Cultural and Artistic Society Kosovka Devojka, Srboljub Petrović, the deputy president of the Obilić Municipal Assembly Milan Mihajlović, representatives of the municipality of Valdagno, representatives of the city of Kragujevac, representatives of the city of Nova Gorica from of Slovenia, representatives of Serbian associations from the Veneto region and priest Aleksandar from Obilić.

It was a presentation of traditional Serbian instruments, namely gusle, bagpipes, and flutes, as well as songs, dances and folk costumes from Serbia.

After the cultural program, students from the Vicenza region who won this year's RTS cross-country run, handed over the statue of the Belgrade Winner to Consul General Stojiljković for safekeeping at the General Consulate in Trieste, but only until next year when it will be handed over to the new winner.

Stojiljković thanked the teachers, children and parents who put in a lot of effort and time to take their children to the Serbian supplementary school, in addition to their regular school, working towards preserving the Serbian language, alphabet, tradition and culture outside their home country.

At the end of the evening, the association Sveti Sava handed out plaques and letters of appreciation to all participants and those who supported the event. They expressed great gratitude to the Consulate General and the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the region, whose support is giving them strength and motivation to persevere in their work.

Representatives of the municipality of Obilić presented Consul General Stojiljković with a wooden carving of the municipality with the image of Miloš Obilić and letters of appreciation from the president of the municipality of Obilić, Goran Dančetovič, and Kosovka Devojka cultural society from Babin Most, for their selfless help in organizing the visit to the Republic of Italy.

On the following day, a visit was organized to the Serbian Orthodox Church St. Luke in Vicenza and attendance at the Sunday Liturgy, followed by a group breakfast.

The President of the Lebane Municipal Assembly proposed to hold the next meeting in Serbia on 7 November, on the occasion of the celebration of the Lebane Municipality Day, which is a twin municipality with the municipality of Valdagno.
