Sofia: Second International Clarinet Competition

After the ending of the Second International Clarinet Competition organised by the „Pancho Vladigerov“ National Music Academy (NMA) and the „Sava Dimitrov“ Foundation, with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Municipality of Sofia, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Sofia Željko Jović hosted the Foundation founder and rector of NMA Sava Dimitrov, jury member Đuro Pete from Serbia, participant Slaven Balać, who won first place in the competition in category „C“, and two other Serbian competitors.

Popular works from the world clarinet repertoire were performed at the competition (works by Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Michel Mangani, etc.). Out of 159 clarinetists from all over the world who applied, the best 30 participated in Sofia, of which four were from Serbia.

Apart from Balać, participant Isidora Vlašić won a special jury award in category „D“. All participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences with their peers from other countries and music schools, as well as to receive valuable advice from members of the international jury, who held master classes as part of the programme.
