Chief Executive Soo Hye-ran presented the National Library of Korea as a cultural institution of great importance. It was founded in 1945, and today it has an impressive collection of books with over 13 million titles, of which about 1.5 million are foreign books, making it one of the 15 largest libraries in the world.
Ambassador Grbić presented the National Library of Serbia as the oldest cultural institution in Serbia which, despite the destruction and devastation of valuable materials (books and manuscripts) during the wars in the twentieth century, had preserved the continuity in its 190-year-long history of operation.
Both sides expressed their interest in establishing direct communication and cooperation between the two related institutions, which would significantly contribute to strengthening the bilateral cooperation in the field of culture.
Ambassador Grbić took the opportunity on his visit to donate a collection of two major works by Jovan Dučić, “Leutar Mornings” and “King Radovan`s Treasure, to the National Library of Korea”, with a request to include it in the library's book collection.
Ambassador Grbić expressed his hope that more works by Serbian authors would be translated into Korean in the future to allow the readers in Korea to get acquainted with the classical and contemporary works of Serbian literature.
