Pavić: No calls of Serbian citizens from Afghanistan, there will be no evacuation flight
"We are in contact with one of our journalists who is planning to leave or has already arrived in Afghanistan. Besides that, we haven't had any of our citizens from Afghanistan address us lately", Pavić said.
He pointed out that the Embassy denied the information that appeared on social networks that an evacuation flight from Afghanistan would be organized, which, he underlined, was not planned.
He emphasized that until this moment, the Embassy did not have a single address from our citizens that would indicate the slightest reason for such an action.
Asked about the situation in Afghanistan, Pavić said that it was such that "news catch up on other news".
"The progress of the Taliban is such that the news become obsolete within a few hours. The last thing that was announced as a shock was that the American embassy was under evacuation. They say smoke can be seen from the destruction of materials and documents inside the embassy. There are also military helicopters and vehicles that are intended for the evacuation of the last members of the US diplomatic mission", he said.
Pavić said that the Indian media reported the statement of the Taliban spokesman that there was no reason for anxiety among the diplomatic staff, because the diplomatic missions would be exempted from their actions.
At the same time, he adds, there was news that the President of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, asked for the help of the international community, confirming that the Taliban forces are at one of the points that is considered to be the very entrance to Kabul.
Asked whether there is a wave of refugees from Afghanistan to neighboring countries, Pavić said that there is a significant number of Afghan citizens in India who came to that country even before the current situation.
"India itself is concerned about the situation because it is closely linked to their relations with Pakistan. There have been no major waves of refugees in India in recent days. But all that is being followed with great attention here because of the situation in Afghanistan itself, but also because of the possible influences on the overall balance in the region", he underlined.
Asked whether a wave of migrants from Afghanistan can be expected soon along the Balkan route, Pavić said that it is too early to talk about the impact of the Taliban's takeover of power on the wave of migration from Afghanistan, because from this angle, it is not possible to see what the border control, freedom of movement and the overall situation in the country in general are like and what they will be like.
"With such a strong and unstoppable wave of Taliban conquest of territory, which is one step away from full control over the country, a new reality will be produced. Given the previous experiences regarding their government, having in mind the basic postulates of their ideology, it is to be expected that a significant number of people will try to leave the country in any way", he is convinced.
When asked what impact the situation in Afghanistan will have on the entire region, he said that the impact will certainly exist.
"Already in the period since the decision to leave Afghanistan by international troops, numerous bilateral and multilateral talks were held on the topic of Afghanistan, due to the fact that everyone is aware, especially the countries of the region – from neighbors to those in strategic directions of migration – about the direction in which the situation can develop. For now, it is difficult to predict in which direction it can go", he stated.
