Bucharest: Opening ceremony of the "Days of Serbian Culture in Timisoara"
In his address, the ambassador pointed out that the "Days of Serbian Culture in Timisoara" best illustrate the commitment and dedicated work of the Serbian community in Romania to preserve Serbian identity and stressed that this event is a positive example of nurturing Serbian tradition and culture for the entire Serbian diaspora.
He emphasized that Serbia and its leadership pay special attention to the interests of our people outside the borders of our country, as well as to the preservation of the Serbian national identity – the Serbian language, the Cyrillic alphabet, culture, religion and customs.
Ambassador Tomašević pointed out that the traditionally friendly relations between the Republic of Serbia and Romania came to the fore again in the difficult times of the pandemic and expressed gratitude to the Romanian state for recognizing the needs of the Serbian community and ensuring that Serbs in Romania live in a friendly environment, on an equal footing with Romanians, as well as with members of other national minorities.
Ambassador Tomašević reminded that since last year, 15 September has been celebrated as the "Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day", and that the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia recently confirmed the "Law on the Use of the Serbian Language in Public Life and the Protection and Preservation of the Cyrillic Alphabet".
He sent a message to his compatriots living in Romania to speak their mother tongue with pride, to celebrate their patron saint’s day and to nurture our culture and customs, and wished them successful "Days of Serbian Culture in Timisoara".
