Bucharest: Ambassador Tomašević at the opening of the VI International European Conference on Interdisciplinary Scientific Research
The goal of the conference is to encourage a wider discussion on the latest challenges, opportunities, limitations and perspectives in multidisciplinary research, as well as to support the further development of activities in this area.
Ambassador Tomašević spoke about the importance of connecting and strengthening economic cooperation, especially in the current global geopolitical context, about the economic performance and achievements of Serbia, as well as about bilateral relations between Serbia and Romania.
Tomašević said that, despite the current crises the world is facing (pandemic, energy crisis, inflation, and events in Ukraine), thanks to previously implemented fiscal consolidation measures, Serbia has faced the economic crisis prepared.
The ambassador emphasized that the Government of Serbia is working intensively on creating a stimulating investment and business environment, digitalisation, energy diversification and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
When it comes to bilateral relations between Serbia and Romania, Ambassador Tomašević highlighted that the two countries have traditionally friendly relations, which represents an excellent basis for expanding cooperation in all areas, including the economy.
The ambassador pointed to the record volume of Serbian-Romanian trade exchange, achieved in 2021, but also emphasized that there are still unused potentials.
Tomašević advocated for greater connection of the markets of the two countries, through the intensification of trade exchange and a greater number of direct investments, better cooperation between the private and public sectors, and the connecting of chambers of commerce and businesspersons in the two countries, their municipalities and districts.
He added that, when it comes to Serbian-Romanian cooperation, there is huge potential in the field of tourism, especially when it comes to the Danube.
Bearing in mind the series of challenges and crises the world is facing, the ambassador pointed out the never-greater necessity of regional connection, in order to reduce the negative effects they have on the economies of countries.
As a positive example in this direction, Tomašević highlighted the “Open Balkans” initiative, created as a mechanism for the better connection in the Balkans, especially in the field of economy, by ensuring the free flow of people, goods, capital, and services.
He reminded that this initiative currently includes the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of North Macedonia, and the Republic of Albania, but that it is also open to other participants in the Western Balkans.
Ambassador Tomašević informed the present public that the First International Wine Fair will be held in Belgrade under the name “Wine Vision of the Open Balkans”, from 1-4 September which will bring together regional wine producers, sommeliers, distributors and importers, including those from Romania, and which will be an excellent opportunity to promote our region.
