Ambassador Lalić: Historic visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to Serbia

28. Jul 2022.
The upcoming visit of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is the first and therefore a historic visit of a Spanish Prime Minister to Serbia, says Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Madrid Katarina Lalić, expecting that the visit will give an additional impetus to the deepening of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Lalić pointed out for Tanjug that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Spain were friendly, excellent, and without any open issues, as well as that they were characterised by mutual support on the matters of vital national interest for both countries.

“The support that Spain is giving to the European integration process of Serbia is very important”, Ambassador Lalić said.

Ambassador Lalić stated that the relations between Serbia and Spain were on the rise and that the political dialogue had intensified, which, she added, was best illustrated by the fact that there had been 11 high-level visits since May last year, which were rounded off by the visit of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić to Spain in February this year, at the invitation of King Felipe VI.

Ambassador Lalić said that the relations between the two countries were intensive in numerous areas - parliamentary cooperation, cooperation in the field of defence, police cooperation, as well as that it was very significant and of key importance for both the Serbian side and Spanish side to intensify their economic cooperation, which, as she said, had huge and untapped potential.

“That is exactly what we expect from this visit, that an additional impetus will be given to the intensifying and deepening of this cooperation”, Ambassador Lalić concluded.

Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain Pedro Sánchez will pay an official visit to Serbia on 29 and 30 July, hosted by President Aleksandar Vučić.
