Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation Ambassador Katarina Lalić Smajević
She was born in 1963 in Sombor. She graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade.
In 1990, she joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an intern.
In the period from 1991 to 1995, she served as Third Secretary in the Economic Multilateral Affairs Department.
In the period from 1995 to 1999, she served as Third Secretary, Second Secretary, and for three years as Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in the Permanent Delegation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to the UNESCO, Paris.
From 2000 to 2001, she served as Counsellor in the Directorate General for Multilateral Affairs.
From 2001 to 2004, she served as First Counsellor in the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and later State Union of Serbia and Montenegro to the UN, New York.
From 2005 to 2007, she held the post of Deputy Head of the UN Department, in the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary.
In the period from 2007 to 2009, she served as Deputy Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the Council of Europe, Strasbourg.
From 2009 to 2010, she served as Minister Counsellor in the NATO Department, Directorate General for Security Policy.
In the period from 2010 to 2013, she served in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN in New York, in the rank of Minister Counsellor.
From 2013 to 2015, she served as Deputy Permanent Representative, in the rank of Ambassador, in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN, New York.
From 2015, she served in the MFA Multilateral Cooperation Sector as Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister, and was appointed Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation in 2017.
In the period from 2018 to 2023, she served as Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Kingdom of Spain.
In February 2024, she was appointed Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation.
She speaks English, Spanish and French.
She is married and has two children.
