Political relations
Bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Yemen are traditionally friendly, with a long history of cooperation dating back to the period of the former Yugoslavia and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). Diplomatic relations with North Yemen were established on 28 December 1957, and with South Yemen on 10 June 1968. Following the unification of the two Yemeni states in 1990, diplomatic relations continued with the Republic of Yemen.
Despite the complex political and security situation in Yemen, both sides share an interest in enhancing political dialogue and developing cooperation in the fields of economy, education, healthcare and other areas of mutual interest.
The then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Yemen, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, visited the Republic of Serbia on 5 and 6 November 2023. On that occasion, he met with the then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić. Their discussions focused on opportunities to enhance bilateral relations, intensify political dialogue and develop cooperation in the fields of economy, education and healthcare.
Meetings on the Sidelines of International Organisations: The then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, met with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Yemen, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2023.
Economic relations
Bilateral economic relations are underdeveloped. According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with Yemen in 2025 amounted to €1.1 million, of which €1.1 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and there was no import from Yemen to Serbia.
