Political relations
Relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of India, based on close ties established during the founding years of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), have traditionally been very good and friendly, with a view to further enhancement. They are characterised by a convergence of views on numerous international issues and a mutual interest in further intensifying political dialogue and strengthening cooperation in all areas.
Then President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić visited India to participate in the AI Impact Summit, held in New Delhi on 19–20 February 2026. During the visit, he met with President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu on 19 February and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 18 February 2026.
Then President Aleksandar Vučić, in his capacity as Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia at the time, participated in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit from 9 to 12 January 2017 and met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President of the Republic of India Droupadi Murmu paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia in June 2023. This was her first visit to a European country since assuming office and the first visit by an Indian president to the Republic of Serbia in 50 years.
To mark the important milestone of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Vice-President of the Republic of India and ex officio Chairperson of the Council of States, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, Venkaiah Naidu, paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia in September 2018.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković visited India in September 2021.
Then First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić visited the Republic of India in May 2018.
Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia in November 2019.
Om Birla, Speaker of the House of the People, the lower house of the Parliament of the Republic of India, headed the Indian delegation to the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Belgrade in October 2019.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić met with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on 14 February 2026.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju visited Belgrade from 31 August to 2 September 2026 to participate in the Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Economic relations
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, total merchandise trade with the Republic of India in 2025 amounted to EUR 425.2 million, of which Serbian exports accounted for EUR 21.9 million and imports for EUR 403.3 million.
The largest Indian investor in Serbia is the Bengaluru-based Embassy Group, which invested in the construction of an IT park in Inđija.
Indian companies have shown particular interest in the tractor industry. In 2012, Sonalika Group concluded a strategic partnership agreement with Agromehanika, based in Boljevac, and an assembly line for Solis tractors became operational in 2014. Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE), part of the Amalgamations Group, acquired the Belgrade-based Machinery and Tractor Industry (IMT) in 2018. Since 2007, Mahindra Group has cooperated with AgroPanonка, the Indian company’s general distributor for the Serbian market.
