Political relations

On 4 May 2017 the Government of the Republic of Serbia established 25 May as the Day of Friendship with the Peoples of Africa.

Friendly relations date back to the time when PAIGC fought for independence from Portugal. Yugoslavia, as part of its policy of supporting liberation movements, wholeheartedly supported the struggle of the people of Guinea Bissau (at the time in the same unit as Cabo Verde), and there was also ideological solidarity, considering the socialist alignment of this party.

Political contact has been renewed through the visit of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time Ivica Dačić to Guinea Bissau in December 2017. The Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau at the time Umaro Sissoco Embaló visited Serbia in 2017.

Economic relations

There was no registered trade exchange in 2021, nor in 2020, 2019 and 2018.
