Political relations
On 4 May 2017, the Government of the Republic of Serbia designated 25 May as the Day of Friendship with the Peoples of Africa.
Bilateral relations are friendly, although underdeveloped. From the very beginning of Cabo Verde’s struggle for independence, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) supported the liberation movement through financial assistance, the provision of weapons and humanitarian aid, as well as the training of Cabo Verdean military personnel. A considerable number of students from Cabo Verde received scholarships from the SFRY, particularly during the 1980s. The Republic of Serbia covers Cabo Verde on a non-residential basis from Portugal.
Visits from Cabo Verde to the Republic of Serbia: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence of Cabo Verde Luís Filipe Lopes Tavares paid an official visit to the Republic of Serbia on 17–18 September 2018, during which a Memorandum of Understanding between the two ministries of foreign affairs was signed. On that occasion, he met with the highest-ranking Serbian officials, including Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Veroljub Arsić, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin and Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Šarčević.
Meetings on the sidelines of international gatherings: The two foreign ministers met in September 2016 on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and in June 2011 in Malabo. The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cabo Verde in Bled in 2010 and on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in January 2011 and in 2012 in Addis Ababa.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met with Manuel Augusto Lima Amante da Rosa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Communities and National Defence of the Republic of Cabo Verde, in New York during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. On that occasion, an Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports was signed.
The most recent political consultations between the two ministries of foreign affairs were held in Praia in 2022.
Economic relations
In the period from January to August 2026, total merchandise trade amounted to USD 59,000, of which Serbian exports accounted for USD 58,000 and imports for USD 2,000.
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, in 2025, trade with Cabo Verde consisted exclusively of Serbian exports, amounting to USD 39,000.
