Political relations
Political relations and cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and Australia have the potential for further development in various areas, in which both countries have a mutual interest.
Slavica Đukić-Dejanović, former Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, visited Australia in September 2009. This was the most recent visit at this level between the two countries.
Ivica Dačić, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Serbia, visited Australia in February 2012, while Julie Bishop, then Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited the Republic of Serbia in July 2017.
Economic relations
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the total trade exchange with Australia in 2025 amounted to €48.4 million, of which €31.6 million referred to exports from the Republic of Serbia and €16.8 million to imports.
Bilateral agreements
Agreement between the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia concerning the Residence and Employment of Yugoslav Citizens in Australia, together with the Arrangement between the Government of the SFRY and the Commonwealth of Australia concerning the Selection Procedures and Travel Conditions for Yugoslav Citizens Travelling to Australia, signed on 12 February 1970 (United Nations Treaty Series, Vol. 742, p. 299).
Trade Agreement between the SFRY and the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, signed on 21 July 1970 (Official Gazette No. 30/1971; United Nations Treaty Series, Vol. 807).
Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the SFRY and the Government of Australia, signed on 14 September 1976 (International Treaties No. 2/1978).
Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Australia, signed on 14 May 2013 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia – International Treaties No. 13/13).
Agreement on Social Security between the Republic of Serbia and Australia, signed on 20 January 2023.
