USEFUL INFORMATION:
HEALTH SITUATION – The hot and dry climate, as well as high summer temperatures in Namibia, may cause dehydration and skin damage, so travelers are advised to always carry water and, if necessary, skin protection products. Cases of malaria are rare. Namibia is among the countries with a high percentage of HIV-positive individuals among the adult population, which should be taken into account. The use of bottled water is recommended. Food is safe in hotels and better-quality restaurants. Health facilities in Namibia are well equipped and provide quality services; however, private hospitals may require patients to pay immediately and subsequently seek reimbursement from insurance companies. It is recommended to have travel health insurance and to check whether the chosen insurance provider is accepted in Namibia.
SECURITY SITUATION – Namibia is a relatively safe country, considering that it is a popular tourist destination. During the stay, standard precautionary measures are recommended, with a warning regarding possible theft. In crowded areas (shopping malls, local markets, etc.), caution should be exercised due to pickpocketing and robbery. This applies especially to the capital, Windhoek. Personal valuables such as cash, payment cards, jewelry, mobile phones, cameras, and similar items should be carefully safeguarded and, if possible, left in hotel accommodation. Walking at night is not recommended, as well as going to poor neighborhoods outside the city or resort.
If you travel to Namibia through a travel agency, it is advisable to check the reliability of everyone involved in the service chain, i.e. the implementation of the tourist arrangement, because it has happened that travel agencies from the Republic of Serbia have encountered unreliable partners in the Republic of Namibia.
TRANSPORT – Public city transport is underdeveloped, and taxis are used for transportation within cities (all legal taxis are marked with numbers displayed on the vehicle). In order to drive a motor vehicle, in addition to a national driver’s license, an international driving permit is required.
OTHER – The currency is the Namibian dollar (NAD), and among foreign currencies, EUR and USD are most commonly exchanged. Foreign currency is safest to exchange in hotels or authorized exchange offices. Foreign payment cards are generally accepted and can be used in hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers.
