VISA REGIME

ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Holders of biometric passports of the Republic of Serbia do not need a visa to stay in the Republic of Moldova for up to 90 days in a period of six months. The visa-free regime does not apply to holders of travel documents of the Republic of Serbia issued by the Coordination Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia. The period of validity of the travel document for the purpose of tourist travel must be three months longer than the planned visit, i.e., three months after the expiration of the requested stay.
Despite the existing visa-free regime, it has been detected that upon entry into the Republic of Moldova, citizens of the Republic of Serbia are subject to additional controls by the competent Moldovan border authorities. These controls primarily focus on verifying the purpose and justification of their stay in the country. Moreover, there has been a notable increase in the number of rejected requests for entry into the country for citizens who fail to provide sufficient evidence regarding the purpose of their visit or intended stay in the Republic of Moldova. With that in mind, we suggest that the citizens of the Republic of Serbia prepare an invitation letter or other document that would prove the purpose of their visit. Please note that despite fulfilling the formal conditions, border control officers of any country retain discretionary authority to deny entry to a foreign citizen.
From October 19, 2023,  additional security measures are in force in the Republic of Moldova. This implies that entry to the international airport in Chisinau will be allowed only to persons who are traveling (with a presented airline ticket and travel document), employees of the airport and members of aircraft crews that are the traveling. There will only be two entrances available for access to the airport, numbers 1 and 3. It is advised that travelers get to the airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure to avoid overcrowding.
At the same time, at all border crossings of the Republic of Moldova, the border authorities will implement increased state border control measures, which includes the international airport in Chisinau.
Money in the amount of up to 10.000 euros without a customs declaration and up to 50.000 euros with a customs declaration can be brought into/exported to Moldova. When entering the Republic of Moldova, the border authorities may also request documents justifying the purpose of entry, as well as proof of having sufficient financial means to stay in Moldova. Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who enter the Republic of Moldova through the part of the Moldovan – Ukrainian border, who do not control the Moldovan authorities (Transnistria) are obliged to register their stay on the territory of Moldova within 72 hours of crossing the border. To use the border crossing with Ukraine, it is recommended to avoid the Transnistria area.

HEALTH SITUATION – It is recommended to have a travel health insurance.

SECURITY SITUATION – Foreign nationals may be victims of theft, robbery, and fraud.
General recommendations: avoid visiting the outskirts of cities at night; keep personal documents and valuables, travel documents, money or credit cards in safe places; avoid parking the car during the night in other places, except in specially arranged and guarded parking lots; avoid crowds; avoid buying valuables from strangers; exchange money only in authorized banks or exchange offices; for city trips, especially in crowded areas, we recommend that you leave your personal documents at the hotel and keep a copy of your personal documents; it is advisable to request an invoice when purchasing.

TRANSPORT – There is no direct flight from Belgrade to Chisinau. It is possible to travel to Moldova by plane (via Vienna) or by train (from Bucharest). A green insurance card is required to travel by car. The national driver's license of the Republic of Serbia is recognized.
In case of traffic accidents, regardless of their severity, it is necessary to contact the local police and wait for their arrival. It is forbidden to move the vehicle or leave the scene of the accident before the arrival of the traffic police.

OTHER INFORMATION – The national currency is the Moldovan leu (MDL). Money changes in banks and exchange offices.
The unique number for all emergencies (police, ambulance, fire brigade) is: 112.
