ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
A visa-free regime between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy is in force. Holders of Serbian biometric passports do not need a visa to stay in Italy for up to 90 days in a period of six months. Visas are obtained at the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Belgrade. Citizens of the Republic of Serbia may enter the Republic of Italy if they have a biometric travel document which is valid for at least three months after the planned date of leaving the territory of Italy. As a rule, additional documents are required, such as a return ticket, a hotel reservation or an invitation letter, and proof of possession of sufficient funds for the planned stay (min. 40−50 euros per day) in the territory of the Republic of Italy.

SOCIAL SECURITY AGREEMENT
The bilateral Convention on Social Security from 1957 is in force, which enables Serbian citizens to exercise their rights from pension (accumulation of length of service in order to exercise the right to pension), disability and health insurance.

USEFUL INFORMATION

HEALTH SITUATION — There are no special health risks in Italy and no special vaccination is required. It is desirable to have an international travel health insurance.
It is safe to drink tap water.

SECURITY SITUATION — The security situation is stable, however, places of mass gatherings should be avoided for personal safety. In large city centres and tourist destinations, there is an increase in petty crime ― theft of wallets and personal documents. It is not advisable to leave documents, valuables or luggage in a parked vehicle.

TRANSPORT — The railway network (high-speed rail system) and road infrastructure are well developed. During a temporary stay in or transit through Italy, travelers may drive a motor vehicle using a Serbian driver's license if they also hold an international driving permit. Persons with registered residence in Italy may use their Serbian driver's license for a maximum of 1 (one) year. After said period, they can exchange it for an Italian driver’s license, in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement on the Recognition and Exchange of Driver's Licenses between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Italy, which entered into force on 17 December 2023. A green card is not required.

OTHER INFORMATION — The currency is the euro. To take over 10,000 euros in cash into the country, it is necessary to have proof of origin. Payment is possible in cash and by payment cards.

In some Italian cities, throwing garbage on the street, sitting on the steps of monuments and consuming food and drinks near the most important cultural and other public buildings are punishable.
