Travellers arriving from countries with yellow fever epidemics (Brazil, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola and Uganda), and those intending to travel to the Ecuadorian part of the Amazon, will be requested to present an international certificate of vaccination upon entering the Republic of Ecuador. This means that any person arriving from countries that, according to the opinion of the World Health Organization, have a high risk of this disease, will have to be vaccinated at least 10 days prior to travel, as will tourists wishing to travel to the Ecuadorian part of the Amazon.

SECURITY SITUATION - On 8 January 2024, a 60-day state of emergency (SOE) was declared across Ecuador following an increase in criminal activity and security incidents. There is also a daily curfew from 11pm to 5am. Public gatherings are prohibited and military and police presence has been increased around key public buildings, airports, bus terminals and on the streets.
During the SOE, all foreign nationals entering Ecuador via land border crossings from Peru and Colombia must present a certificate of impunity certified by an Apostille.
Having everything in mind, Serbian citizens should reconsider the necessity of traveling to Ecuador, and if the trip is necessary, they should comply with all guidelines of local authorities, including respecting the curfew, carefully follow the announcements of the Government of Ecuador, as well as regularly receive information from trusted public sources in order to have accurate information about current threats and violent activities.
TRANSPORT - There is a well-developed transport structure that covers air and maritime transport, railways and roads.
Serbian citizens can drive motor vehicles within the territory of Ecuador if, in addition to a Serbian driver's licence, they have a valid international driving permit during the first 90 days of their stay. Thereafter they need to exchange it for an Ecuadorian driver’s licence.
OTHER - The US dollar is the official currency of Ecuador. Major payment cards, such as American Express, Diners Club, Visa, or Master Card, including those issued by Serbian banks for use abroad, are accepted in all tourist points. Daily expenses depend on the place and type of accommodation, and range from 30 to 70 USD. The daily costs of mountaineering or similar activities range from 35 to 80 USD.
The biggest tourist attraction in Ecuador is a visit to the Galapagos Islands where Charles Darwin studied the animal world and used his findings to present his theory of evolution. Special, much higher prices apply for visits to Galapagos. Tourist information can be found at www.ecuador.com, Ecuador Channel.
