USEFUL INFORMATION
HEALTH SITUATION — The health situation is generally good, with no preventive measures currently in place.
Since mid-July 2025, over 8,000 cases of chikungunya fever, transmitted by the bite of the Aedes albopictus mosquito, have been recorded in Guangdong Province in southern China. This mosquito species is primarily found in warm and humid areas and is highly aggressive, even during the day. Symptoms in infected individuals include nausea, joint pain, and fatigue, but no severe cases have been reported in China so far. The majority of cases have been recorded in the city of Foshan in southern China, with additional cases reported in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Macau.
According to the hospital in Foshan, where the highest number of cases has been recorded, all reported cases have exhibited mild to moderate symptoms, and over 90% of patients have recovered after receiving treatment.
The spread of the infection has been facilitated by weather conditions that promote mosquito breeding, as well as the fact that chikungunya is not a common infection in China but rather in tropical and subtropical regions, resulting in a weak immune response among those infected.
Experts warn that the epidemic could continue to spread with worsening weather conditions and the return of heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to continue monitoring and controlling the spread of the infection.
The population has been advised to use insect repellents and install mosquito nets on windows, but no stricter measures have been suggested at this time.
SECURITY SITUATION — High-level security.
TRANSPORT — All types of transport are functional, highly efficient, and affordable.
