ENTERING AND LEAVING THE COUNTRY
Citizens of the Republic of Serbia wishing to travel to the Kingdom of Bhutan as tourists can obtain the appropriate visa exclusively through tourist agencies registered in Bhutan, or their partner agencies. The only way to organise tourist travel to the country is through these agencies. The price of a visa is USD 40, and it is usually included in the price of the travel arrangement. For tourist travel, passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned travel date, and the same rule applies to regulating residence. USEFUL INFORMATION
HEALTH SITUATION — It is recommended to undertake appropriate precautionary measures against mosquito bites, and to consume bottled water and thermally processed food.
TRANSPORT — Local transport for foreign visitors is organised only by tourist agencies.
OTHER — The Bhutanese currency Ngultrum (Nu) is tied to the Indian rupee with the 1:1 exchange rate. Indian rupees can be used for payment across Bhutan (except for 500- and 2,000-rupees banknotes). The use of international payment cards in Bhutan is sporadic. Payment in cash in USD is recommended when buying souvenirs, etc.
Tourist packages in Bhutan always include, in addition to accommodation, meals, local transportation, a guide, and cultural programmes. Tourist packages only exclude beverages (beer, sparkling water, fruit juice), certain hotel services, and sports activities ― tourist agencies will notify tourists of these details in advance. Although this was not the case before, in recent years the practice of giving tips in tourist facilities has become more frequent and acceptable.
Climate in the southern parts of Bhutan is tropical, while the region of the Himalayas is under a permanent snow cover. The monsoon season starts in June and lasts until September, so the best time to visit Bhutan weather-wise is from late September through November.
Bhutan is an unstable region that is susceptible to earthquakes. In case of an earthquake, it is necessary to follow the instructions of local authorities and to act accordingly.
