Berlin: Ambassador Janković for "Berliner Zeitung" on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija
In a conversation with the newspaper's editor Michael Maier, Ambassador Janković said that the decree on temporary license plates came suddenly, as well as the incursion of special forces of the Pristina police into northern Kosovo, but that Serbia does not want an escalation.
She reminded that President Aleksandar Vučić, in a conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, made it clear that we expect NATO to protect Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, because their security is of the utmost importance to us.
Ambassador Janković said that the main negotiators would meet on 29 September in Brussels and that she expected a clear EU position, noting that restraint could not be constantly demanded from both sides, when one side is taking steps to destabilize the situation and violate the agreement.
Ambassador Janković added that it often happens that when Serbia initiates regional cooperation, some in the region interpret it as an intention to create a great Serbia.
"Of course, that is not true – what we expect from our partners is to strongly condemn the plans for the creation of a great Albania", the ambassador pointed out.
Ambassador Janković also expressed her belief that the Federal Republic of Germany, as a partner in Europe, strongly engaged in the region, can help resolve the conflict.
"We would welcome it if Berlin was to put pressure on Pristina to restore stability in the region", the ambassador said.
